A project from Fall 2023 DESINV 22 Prototyping at Fabrications at UC Berkeley: expressive origami powered by a servo motor that lengthens and shortens. Product Video
While the design looks simple, the process to create the prototype is surprisingly complex and time consuming. Selecting the origami design was an easy choice. However, the biggest point of frustration was to decide how the attachments to the origami was going to initiate the origami movement in a clean, simple way.
Future Iteration:
Instead of focusing changing the code, the position of the servo attachment will be adjusted before taping it down for the future iteration. The strings that initiate the movement will also be hidden in between the black foam box and the cardboard box.
